Keep your mornings consistent: whether you're a morning workout person, a collagen in your coffee person, or a "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" person, try and keep your morning routine consistent on the road. This helps to get your day off on the right foot and put you in a better mindset. Try finding a local workout, hitting the hotel gym or taking a brisk walk to explore the city if you like to workout when you wake up. If you're someone who needs their collagen or maybe inulin is your thing, make sure to bring it with you! Most brands have sample packs and travel sizes or you can measure it out and bring in a small baggy...you're starting to get the idea right? Whatever you do at home in the morning, keep it up on vaca!
Bring your own reusable water bottle- Not only do our bodies and skin get super dehydrated when we travel...aint no one aspiring to look like a raisin, am I right? but water can also help with your food intake throughout the day. If you're thirsty, it's very common to confuse thirst for hungry, prompting you to reach for a bite to eat, when a glass of water would really satiate you. On a regular day, it's best to aim for half of your body weight in oz. of water. However, that number goes up if you workout or if you travel (ding ding ding). Make it a fun challenge with yourself or anyone that you travel with to drink or set an hourly reminder in your phone!
Scope out healthy restaurants in advance- Search for IG hashtags for restaurants in your destination city, do a quick google search for "healthy restaurants nearby," and check out our favorite restaurants in the HelloWellness Restaurant Guide! Also, we love to keep in mind that while it's nice to have a restaurant full of options, traveling is also all about experiencing and indulging in the local delicacies: We pinky promise, one meal won't change your whole diet. ENJOY your life, the company, and the experience you're fortunate enough to have right now!
Walk everywhere! It's a fun way to explore a new city or destination while also getting exercise. Bonus if you remember to engage your core, take quick heel to toe steps, roll your shoulders down your back, and squeeze in your inner thighs. This is straight out of MWH and you will feel it!
- Pack Snacks- It's one thing to research healthy restaurants for once you arrive, but a whole different (energy) ball game for trying to find healthy snacks or meals on-the-go. Whether you're in the airport, on a long plane or train ride, or doing one of those long walks we recommended, we love bringing some healthy snack options so you're always prepared. Think almonds, fruit, bars, energy bites, pre-cut veggies, etc.
