New Years has come and gone and if you're anything like me, so have your resolutions. I don't know why I bother setting such lofty goals for myself when I can continually work on self-improvement year round. I realized last night, that January 1st is essentially a meaningless date with unnecessary pressure created only by myself, and I can implement small changes to big a big difference, year round.
As we talked to Maria Marlowe about the how's and why's of sugar detoxing, it became quickly apparent that this could be a viable solution for a simpler change with very real and powerful results nonetheless.
While sugar might taste sweet, it's impact on our health is anything but. Sugar is linked to:
- weight gain and
- increased risk of obesity
- high blood pressure and cholesterol levels
- poor cognitive function
- inflammation in the body
- low and irregular energy levels
- just to name a few!
Maria taught us that cutting additive sugars (cane sugar, honey, maple syrup, etc.), is not only a healthy re-boot for our system, but can also help clear up acne, absolve digestive issues, boost our energy levels, and decrease inflammation.
Maira discussed the scientific research proving that a whole food, plant-based diet, free from sugar, can dramatically improve how we look and feel! So with that, as we kick off 2017, I'll be ditching the laundry list of new years resolutions and kicking off 2017 sugar-free style.
